Eighteen young Scandinavian designers created a collection with a strong, simple profile that would follow in the Scandinavian design tradition. It was called IKEA PS, as it was a kind of post script or addendum to the standard range. At the 1995 furniture fair in Milan, IKEA PS was presented under the theme of Democratic Design. The term summarised the company’s ambition to create products of good design and function, at low prices.

The first IKEA PS collection was very well received. New collections have since returned regularly. Over the years, both Swedish and international designers have contributed products under different themes. The common denominator for all the collections has been to develop Scandinavian design and make good design available to the many people.

"I've always been a big fan of science fiction, which is easy to guess when you see IKEA PS 2014 pendant lamp. When it's closed, only a little light finds its way through the small gaps and transparent plastic of the globe, but a pull of the strings creates a distance between the parts and light flows out. The shape looks like a spaceship, but this lamp is much easier to assemble. You just click the parts together and it’s ready to float over the dining area or coffee table.”

Light bulb sold separately. IKEA recommends LED bulb E27 globe clear.

Use a clear light bulb if you have a lamp shade or lamp with a perforated or cut-out pattern or other airy, open design and want the pattern to cast effects on the wall and ceiling.

Use an opal light bulb if you have an ordinary lamp shade or lamp and want an even, diffused distribution of light.
